ABOUT MESH

Hi, I’m Simone Muxlow, designer and creator of MESH
Actually an acronym of my three children’s names
M maya E ette S simone H hazel
Im originally from New Zealand and have been in Melbourne 14 years.

The backstory
I completed a Diploma of Visual Arts in Nelson Nz, majoring in jewellery design.
I then dabbled as an artist, opened a gallery, did realestate, renovated properties
and moved to Melbourne.
I designed kitchens until my passion for jewellery overtook my passion for a good kitchen!
The jewellery
I repurpose materials & unwanted objects, often found in op shops, markets and auctions giving them a new unseen beginning and combining these to create something inspired.
In my working process it’s crucial for me to involve elements of deconstruction and reconstruction, of creating a statement and making something better, something forward thinking.
These pieces are fabricated for and designed specifically for fashion shoots, runway, music videos and special events.

The work
As I design and build each artwork my work focuses on jewellery as adornment rather than an accessory, disbanding the stereotypical boundaries of what jewellery and styling is.
As I evolve and play with fashion adornment my aesthetic in this is ever-changing. Integrating the customisation of clothing alongside the production of my upcycled jewellery brand, playing with adorning shoes, making chain wigs, and dresses.
Im inspired by archival images, by contemporary simplicity, by black culture and by nature
